Who reports on water shortages, schools, healthcare or decisions made by your municipality? If important events in your community rarely make the news, help us put that gap on the map.
A media desert is a community where people have limited or no access to reliable local news. It can be a village, town or neighbourhood. Even where media outlets exist, issues affecting the community may receive little regular reporting.
Report a gap in local news
Use the interactive map to identify a place in North Macedonia or Serbia and report:
- No local media outlets.
- Limited coverage of local issues.
- A media outlet that has closed.
- Concerns about biased reporting.
- Another problem affecting local information.
How to submit a report
Click “Start”, select the location on the map and choose the type of problem. You can add a short description with a specific example, then click “Submit report”.
Tell us which stories go uncovered, where you get your local news and whether a local outlet has stopped operating. You do not need to be a journalist or an expert. Your experience as a resident is a valuable starting point.
A report flags a potential problem; it does not automatically confirm that a place is a media desert.
